New power plant build and integration of new technologies into existing power plants require a thorough screening of a large number of issues, ranging from technical to environmental and legislative to economic considerations.

Project realization

Development of a new power plant is a complex task. Every plant has its own unique set of challenges. Once sanctioned, a new plant project will face a long chain of events, including considerable financial and technical risks. KEMA can provide engineering expertise to realize the project, from the very beginning (feasibility) to commissioning (operational support).

 

New technologies

Integration of new technologies, both in new plants and existing facilities, is an important field of KEMA’s consulting activities. We constantly monitor the development of new technologies and their applicability to, and benefits for, our customers; this is especially the case for developments that increase plant efficiency and availability, minimizing environmental impact or fulfilling future emission requirements. Currently CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) developments have our focused attention.

 

Owner’s representative

As owner's representative, KEMA participates in many new build and retrofit projects. KEMA provides a full range of related activities, from feasibility studies through to performance and guarantee measurements.

 

Banker’s engineer

As Banker’s Engineer (or Independent Engineer), KEMA will take care of the review of project plans and engineering documents, the auditing of manufacturers, the monitoring of construction, commissioning and performance testing and the auditing of operation and maintenance.

 

Retrofit and refurbishment

KEMA’s services as owner’s representative or independent engineer are not restricted to new build projects. KEMA manages retrofit and refurbishment projects , with the same reliability and accuracy as new build projects.
